NordPass is the password manager from Nord Security, the parent company that also owns NordVPN, NordLocker, and Surfshark. The product launched in 2019 and has grown into a competitive option in the password manager market, with the marketing power of the Nord ecosystem behind it.

What NordPass is
NordPass is operated by Nord Security, headquartered in Lithuania. The product was developed by Nord’s internal team rather than acquired, distinguishing it from some competitors’ acquisitions of existing password managers.
The product covers standard password manager features: password storage with end-to-end encryption (using XChaCha20 cipher rather than the more common AES-256), secure notes, credit card storage, generated aliases (limited integration), 2FA TOTP storage, passkey support.

What NordPass does well
The pricing is competitive. Premium at $24/year is comparable to Bitwarden Premium ($10/year) and meaningfully cheaper than 1Password Individual ($36/year). For users wanting bundled services from Nord (NordVPN + NordPass + NordLocker), the bundles can be value.
The encryption uses XChaCha20, which is technically modern. AES-256 is also fine and is what most competitors use; the choice between them is largely a matter of implementation preference rather than security difference.
The interface is polished. The mobile apps and browser extensions feel current.
The security audit history exists. Cure53 has audited NordPass at least once with results published.
The integration with the broader Nord ecosystem is straightforward if you already use Nord products.
What NordPass does less well
The brand association with NordVPN is a double-edged sword. For users uncomfortable with Nord Security’s consolidation (now including Surfshark), the consolidation extends to NordPass.
The free tier is more restrictive than competitors. NordPass free is limited to 1 device active at a time, which makes it impractical for most users beyond initial trial.
The third-party integration ecosystem is smaller than 1Password’s or Bitwarden’s. CLI tools, developer integrations, third-party apps that hook into NordPass are less developed.
The security model uses a master password derivation, similar to Bitwarden. Less defense-in-depth than 1Password’s Secret Key model.
